CASTING

We are currently casting for our R&D process and public sharing performance.

The show is set on a ‘stage of two halves’. From the upper stage terraces the present day football fan ‘chorus’ commentates, chants and responds to the ‘action’ being played on the lower stage. This lower stage ‘action’ is set in the North of England 1914-21 men are off to war and women’s roles are changing. We follow our female protagonist whose desire to fulfil her own new found sporting dreams, in a male dominated footballing family, reflects a concurrently bigger struggle: The women’s footballing community are attracting crowds of up to 53,000 – a threat to the male domination of the game. The FA conclude that their only resolve is to put a stop to it.

Through protest songs and chants this show highlights the injustice experienced by women in a man's world and seeks to honour women’s place in football for future generations by celebrating that it is everyone’s right to be in love with the beautiful game.
