A new experimental Opera/Theatre piece

inspired by the true story of Mary Frances Heaton

with an original musical score and a libretto

based on Mary's embroidered words and surviving medical records.

The performance features a cycle of songs especially composed and performed by Red Gray and Sarah Nicolls on the extraordinary `Inside-out Piano'. The piece is directed by Zoe Bouras with choreography by Kate Webster who also performs and features lighting design by Kristina Hjelm and costume design by Rosie Whiting.

As theatre-makers we were struck by the rich potential for a piece of performance with its complex tapestry and emotional unravelling, and as women, by the injustice of Mary's fate at the hands of apparent dismissive but all-powerful patriarchal authority resulting in a life-long incarceration from the age of 37 without voice and without hope.
